A Home That Whispers Heaven: Surrounding Our Kids with Reminders of God

In the middle of the dishes, school bags, laundry piles, and toy explosions, I’ve found myself craving quiet nudges toward heaven — not just for me, but for my children too.
Our home is loud, busy, and full of life (and crumbs). And in all of that beautiful chaos, I want to make sure my kids are also surrounded by truth, love, and reminders of who God is.
So, I’ve started placing little printouts and Scripture verses around the house. Nothing fancy — just gentle cues: on the fridge, by the bathroom mirror, taped to the back of the bedroom door. Things like:
The Fruits of the Spirit in kid language — so they know what love, patience, and self-control look like in everyday life.
A list of “Ways to Love Like Jesus Today”— smile at a sibling, help without being asked, say a prayer for someone in need.
A simple prayer beside their bed — so the last thing they read each night points their heart back to God.
Gratitude prompts on the kitchen wall — “What is one gift from God you noticed today?”
A poster of The Gifts of the Holy Spirit - so they know where and how to grow them”
These little things remind me that teaching our kids about God isn’t just in big conversations or Sunday mornings — it’s in the small, repeated moments, the background hum of daily life.
God doesn’t need grand gestures to reach their hearts — He works through sticky fingers pointing to a Bible verse, and breakfast-table discussions about what “gentleness” means when you’re mad at your brother.
And maybe — just maybe — these reminders aren’t just for them. They’re for me too. To speak more kindly. To pause and pray. To remember that this home is holy ground, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s where God is being made known — one tiny sign at a time.
